Acne & Acne Scar Treatment in Oakville
Treatments that can help with breakouts and soften the look of acne scars for smoother, more even skin.

What are acne and acne scars?
Acne is a common skin condition that causes spots, most often on the face, chest and back.
Acne scars form when deep breakouts, such as cysts or nodules, heal. They can be sunken (ice pick, rolling or boxcar scars) or raised. Flat dark marks left after a breakout are not true scars: they are a type of pigmentation and usually fade over time.
Common causes
- Excess oil and hair follicles clogged with oil and dead skin cells.
- Bacteria and inflammation in the clogged follicles.
- Hormonal changes, some medicines and stress can trigger acne or make it worse.
- Picking or squeezing spots can lead to scarring.

- Treat active acne first. Breakouts should be under control before scar treatment starts.
- Scar treatment takes a series of sessions. For example, 3 to 5 microneedling sessions, or 3 to 5 mild to medium peels spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart. Results are gradual.
- Every skin is different. Some treatments carry a higher risk of colour changes on darker skin, so each treatment is tailored to your skin.
- At home: wash twice a day with a gentle cleanser, don't pick or squeeze spots, and choose non-comedogenic products.
- See a doctor if acne does not improve with self-care, if you have many deep or painful spots, or if it is affecting your mood.
